| 401 | JAPAN: British Military mission to Japan 1921. Small quantity of album leaves, photos of the British military mission to Japan with some of China interspersed. Most significantly there is a clear signature of Cecil H Mears, the Lieutenant Colonel who commanded the group of approximately 100 ex-Airforcemen who were sent to Japan in 1921 to teach the Japanese to fly! The results were clearly successful in view of Pearl Harbour 20 years later. Some pictures (small) approximately 6 x 4ins of flying machines. Below Mears' signature is (possibly in his hand) a picture of a sledge cart with sledge dogs. Mears is chiefly remembered as being the officer in charge of the dogs of Captain Scott's ill-fated Terra Nova expedition. 5 leaves 10 x 8ins £80-£120. | Nil |
