599 CLUNES (Alec): A personal archive. Substantial quantity of unsorted material relating to the life and works of Alec Clunes the actor, diaries, journals, scrapbooks, programmes, correspondence, etc. contained in several boxes including original artwork for Clunes's theatre productions and his early road tours of Europe, to include considerable material to do with the operation of The Arts Theatre Club. Clunes was born in 1912, first performed at The Old Vic - subsequent traditional roles on stage and screen - a contemporary of Olivier and Gielgud. Sadly he died in 1970 and his role particularly that of the post-war theatre has not been fully researched. This is a unique opportunity to research and write about the life of Alec Clunes from primary research material. £1000-£2000. Several boxes in b.c. room.

Calligraphically engraved title plate with rich architectural and figural border. 7 plates of masques in groups of 3, the last plate has only 2 figures. 230 x 168mm printed on very large paper, boards morocco backed. An unusual and interesting series of masques De Gheyn 1565-1615 of Antwerp. There are two issues of the series, this is apparently the earlier issue, lacks the plate immediately following the type, nevertheless very rare. £300-£500.
