Buying at Auction

At Stride and Son buying at auction is made easy by our helpful staff, who are always on hand to give assistance and advice to buyers.

Our monthly fine art and antiques auctions are on view two days previous to the saleday from 9 am to 5 pm and on the morning of the sale from 9 am.  Book auctions are on view the day before the sale and on the morning of the sale.  Catalogues are available from our office one week before the sale, or may be viewed on line through our 'Sales Diary' page.

Bidding is by numbered paddles which are available at the auction office.  Our buyer's premium is 15% (plus VAT).

Buyers are able to leave a commission bid with the auction office if they are unable to attend on the auction day, or in certain circumstances a telephone bid may be possible for items of a higher value.

We accept payment of accounts by cash, cheque, debit card, Mastercard or Visa credit card, although please note that credit card payments carry a small fee of 1.6% (plus VAT).

Lots purchased should be collected within seven days of the sale.  Smaller items can be posted to you at a small additional cost - please contact Simon Bullingham to arrange this.  For larger items our reliable and friendly local carrier Brian Hurren can arrange delivery at a very competitive price.  Please phone or fax him direct on (01243) 530062.

If you are unable to attend one of our sales Stride & Son will be pleased to execute telephone bids on those lots with a minimum estimate of £1000.  Please note acceptance of telephone bids will always be at our discretion.  Since telephone lines are limited please make arrangements well in advance.  We will only accepts bids on first come first served basis.  Stride & Son will not be held responsible for any default or liability arising from executing telephone bids.
