Oblong 4to, padded leather album with upper cover detached: contains 48 photographs, window mounted, each 15 x 20cm, depicting surface machinery and buildings (7 images) and detailed views taken underground (41) mostly of men at work or posed portraits at working face. The Driefontein goldmine was established after a survey made in 1937, at one time the largest gold mine on the continent of Africa. (1)
